Inspired by my toddler Grayson—and his big love for tigers—this playful series follows a curious little tiger cub as he tumbles through the everyday adventures of toddlerhood. Each illustration captures a moment of wonder, challenge, or delight, from learning new words to discovering his own bravery. Stories like Grayson Finds His Roar, inspired by my son’s speech journey, remind us that even the smallest cubs grow in their own time. With gentle humor, warm color, and a touch of wild imagination, these pieces celebrate the tender triumphs of being little.
Grayson the Tiger
Grayson the little tiger sat in the tall grass, watching the other animals. He opened his mouth wide and… squeak!
"That’s not a roar," he thought with a sigh.
GRAYSON FINDS HIS ROAR
Grayson tried again. Squeak!
A butterfly landed on his nose.
"Maybe I’ll never roar," Grayson whispered.
Grayson’s friends stopped by to cheer him up.
Zara the zebra said, "Try humming first!"
Grayson hummed, but it just tickled his whiskers.
Oscar the owl suggested, "Say ‘hoot-hoot!’ It’s easy!"
Grayson gave it a try, but it sounded more like "whoo-whoops!"
Grayson practiced all day—meows, chirps, and even squeaks—but still no roar.
"What if I can never roar?" he wondered.
That night, Grayson felt sad. He curled up under the stars and whispered, "I just want to be heard."
The next morning, Grayson saw Zara stuck in some branches.
"Help!" she called. Grayson opened his mouth to shout but—nothing!
Grayson took a deep breath. "Stop!" he yelled.
Zara froze, and Grayson ran to help her.
"You did it!" cheered Zara. "You used your voice!"
Grayson blinked. He had spoken up without even thinking!
Grayson smiled and let out his biggest sound yet: ROAR!
All his friends cheered. Grayson grinned, knowing that words, and roars, could help him be heard.
